Our newly renovated pub, The Village Tavern, offers a new pub menu delivers a range of light bites, British staples, and other firm favourites. When looking at pub food near Durham options, you won’t be short of dishes for all taste buds.
The classic fish and chips has a modern twist as we’ve gone for haddock rather than cod while our tartare sauce has a unique kick. The homemade chips can also be paired with scampi for a slightly different flavour.
Other popular treats on the new menu include macaroni cheese, bangers and mash, half-roast chicken, and BBQ ribs. The latter comes with a homemade spicy slaw for a little twist.
Or if you’re looking for a good pie, the 61 Signature Pie range includes steak and Guinness, leak and cheese, or chicken and pancetta. The seasonal veg ensures that the dish remains exciting at all times while homemade chips or mash are also served.
From the grill, diners can choose between steak (ribeye or sirloin), gammon steak, or a mixed grill. Meanwhile, our burgers range from a classic homemade beef burgers to halloumi burgers, cajun chicken burgers, and short rib burgers.
A selection of light bites includes standard classics like chicken wings and crispy potato skins. But it also extends to more distinct dishes like crispy teriyaki pork belly or chicken liver parfait.

The Sunday Lunch menu offers a choice of two courses (£25) or three courses (£30). This removes the hassle. Whether you want a roast followed by a chocolate brownie or fish and chips preceded by broccoli soup and finished with an Eton mess, you can relax and enjoy the venue’s decor and peaceful surroundings.
Meanwhile, the prices of all signature menu dishes remain unchanged at all times. Alternatively, if looking to book afternoon tea, the set cost is £22.95.
The main pub menu is in service right away and available for lunch from 12pm – 5pm on Fridays to Sundays and dinner from 6pm – 8:45pm seven days a week. Book a table today.
